While it's not widely known today, London has a remarkable history with spectacles.

It was the birthplace of the achromatic lens, the monocle, the Windsor rim, and the lorgnette; London's optical industry is one that has been characterised by growth, then decline, and now renewal.

In the final week of Cubitts's exhibition, 'RETROSPECTIVE: London, Spectacles, and Half a Millennia', founder Tom Broughton, historian Neil Handley, and the godfather of spectacle design, Lawrence Jenkin, will discuss the factors that led to the industry's fall, and the forces that are helping to bring it back from the brink in our fair city.

This event is happening on 3rd April between 7pm and 8pm. The event has no cost however to attend, you need to register via the book tickets button.
